According to Dyke, bears are one of the easiest animals to carve in wood and therefore if you are a beginner to wood carving animals, you should start with trying to carve a bear.

Why? Because bears are large, round animals (in general) with lots of hair. The shapes are very large and the hair covers up minor mistakes in the anatomy.
